Gary Graham, in his last statement before being executed by the State of Texas, said, "Don't mourn, organize." A small, core group of Austinites of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty had been doing that for a number of years. Graham's execution, however, brought many new people out to protests, and, ultimately, to participation in the work of the Campaign. Throughout this hot summer, people have been meeting regularly to organize the Moratorium March on the Mansion, which will take place on Sunday, October 15.

Wednesday Sept. 20th

Olympia, WA - Olympia Earth Firsters and other activistsand rabble rousers have occupied the Gore Headquarters inOlympia, Washington since about 11:30 Wednesday morning.

The occupation culminated from an 11am rally thatmarched to the politician's headquarters. A protester partywas held whlie 200 people occupied the building. At least 3people attached themselves to the building with U- shapedbike locks to hinder their removal. As of 5p.m. the sameday, 100 people still remained within the headquarters.

Occupiers released the following statement:

BLOOMINGTON, IN - The Earth Liberation Front (ELF) has officially claimed responsibility for setting a fire at the GOP headquarters in Bloomington, IN on September 9, 2000. This is the fourth major action committed by the ELFin Bloomington this year.

The communiqu‚ sent by the ELF stated, "The fire was set as a reminder to politicians such as John Hostettler that we are watching and that we will not sit idly by as they push for plans like I-69."

Light rail... what a fiasco! This billion(s) dollar boondoggle is the worst idea to come down the track since the South Texas Nuclear Disaster. The problem is, there are so many new people in town who have no knowledge of the nuke.

They weren't here to learn those very expensive lessons, as did we who were here in the 70's & 80's fighting those battles.

The nuke ran six times over the estimated costs and was completed several years late. These same problems are quite likely to happen again on such a large, complex project overseen by Cap Metro.

Today Radio Progreso continues to transmit at 5,000 watts, forty-three years after the station was formed, from the northern valley of R¡o Sula near Honduras' largest industrial city.
